Competition Project: Twins - Vertical SPA, Rome, Italy

Brief: To design a hundred metre high tower, next to the coliseum, which would present itself as an “important” element, which would expose Rome’s complexity by being a “vertical” Rome, which would assemble the facts and the enigmas lived & surviving in the Eternal City. 

  • Individual entrant, developing the design of a 100m high, vertical SPA.

  • Developing a design not repetitive of historicism but daring and innovative, harmonising with Roman Architecture

  • Utilising two sequential paths of bilateral symmetry, merging and splitting to form public and private spaces

  • Reference to the Myth of Rome’s Twins, Romulus & Remus

  • Development of structural space frame to free up inner core to become void - a ‘vertical courtyard’.

  • Development of a delicate a discrete vertical circulation
